Handling The Adult ADD

I much prefer to talk about Attention Difference Disorder rather than Attention Deficit Disorder which is the commonly known name. Firstly, I speak about recognizing the symptoms of ADD – how we actually can identify if we, ourselves have got it or somebody that we love and work with has got it and how it impact. In order to understand why Adult ADD people think and act and speak and behave the way that they do, we need to understand the biology of the brain because the brain is the seat of our personality and the brain is the seat of Adult ADD.

Next I'm going to address those people who are Adult ADD. Perhaps you have identified these traits and characteristics already in yourself. But, if you are not – if you are a loved one, if you are a family member or if you are a boss or if you are a colleague or if you are a friend – then what you are going to hear is actually going to give you the opportunity to be in the shoes of someone who is ADD. You are going to have the opportunity to walk in their shoes, to know what it's like when ADDs talk about ‘getting around to it’ and they never do. This can be very frustrating for others at work and in the home.

I'll finish off discussing how to enjoy Adult ADD in your relationships. Even if you don’t believe that you can, you can. ADDs have just got so much energy and they are full of ideas, they are full of originality, creativity – they’ve got that in spades. They are so innovative and they’re so attentive and they’re so funny.

Learn how to celebrate the ADD difference. Before couples can move on in their relationship when there are ADD issues, the actually have to know a lot about ADD. They have to know about how the behaviors impact on relationships, they have to know about how they impact on each other. I’ve found that one of the easiest ways for people to find out about how ADD impacts on relationships is to hear about other people’s examples and other people’s stories.
